STRÄCKNING is a mimetic production of assembly instructions, drawing on the well-known aesthetic of a multinational furniture conglomerate, combined with the concept of ergonomics. The brochure contains female figures in varied postures with detailed descriptions, notes or directions, providing an oblique means of measurement for bodies and their functioning. By accumulating imagery of reproduced mechanisms, the artist attempts to synthesise a set of somatic knowledge, in parallel with pre-modern illustrations of the corpse, the skeleton and anatomy, which remained metaphoric iconography before shifting to accurate depiction. What is a holistic idea of the human body? In the face of AI with the help of transhumanism, the body seems more conceptual than ever. STRÄCKNING resists the unipolar conception of bodily reality, in search of a blurry line between science, materiality and poetics.
